Does anyone know exactly how your 401K is being invested?  It seems that the stock markets have taken a huge bite out of most 401K plans.  We are seeing our retirement investment shrink further with each passing month.

Should we be concerned?  I think so.  I say this because most of us really don’t understand the risks investing in 401K .  Why?  Because we weren’t educated.  I say this because it used to be that pension plans were a company funded retirement plan.  Now each one of us is funding our own retirement through 401K.  And we are leaving it up to an investment individual, giving him the freedom to invest our money as his company sees fit.

Education seems to be the key.  I had no idea where my money was going.  I was more concerned about reading how much money I was losing.  Did I even have control?  Until I become educated, I won’t have the control of my retirement future.

Go to the website of your plan.  And if you are fortunate enough to still have a job, have your boss invite the representative of your retirement particular plan so that explanations of your risks and benefits can be brought to your attention.  It is only then that you will be able to decide for yourself whether your investment road to retirement is on the right track.
